We asked Millennials and Gen Z shoppers questions to understand how online and in-store shopping work together in tandem to generate sales.

Was there a sale going on today that made you want to shop?
“Tasha: Was there a sale? No, I don’t think so. Veronica: No. There’s usually a sale online and then we go “Oh my god I’m coming to the sale, let’s buy it.” But today was just, like an emergency, so we came out shopping.”

Was there anything you saw on social media that brought you into the store today? “Yeah, jeans. I came in for jeans today. Oh it’s just a cool, cropped ankle pair of jeans, which I have to order online.” — Josh 30 // Millennial from NYC visiting Uniqlo Soho

What did you get at Bershka today?
I got two jackets and a pair of trousers. I actually wanted to buy all of this online, but I didn’t realize there was a pop-up shop. So then when I figured it out, I might as well go try it on before I commit and it worked out.

What were you looking for in Foot Locker today? “I was looking for the Adidas NMDs. I’ve been trying to get them online for two hours.

What’s one suggestion for the head of Bershka? “Keep it here and make it bigger. (Why bigger?) More selection makes it more convenient for people like me who don’t shop online. I like touching products before I buy it. Having that accessible would be dope.”

Why did you choose Macy’s? “Well they had a specific one I was looking for. It’s kinda hard to find elsewhere. (Have you tried looking at other stores?) I’ve been looking online. I don’t have much time to look in stores. But I did see it online. I decided to check it out in the store.” — Annie 24 // Millennial from NYC visiting Macy’s

Why did you come to Nike today? “Well I was just really returning a pair of sneakers that I bought online. Once I got it in my hand, I didn’t feel the same vibe as when I was ordering them. (What did you purchase?) The Jordan 3s.”
